The Thrifty Home - How to use a Hotfix Gun / Applicator

This is just my second posting on how to give your home a facelift without breaking the bank but hopefully you will find it very useful.

One of my favourite ‘tools’ is a hot fix applicator/gun which you can buy for less than £20 and get a lot of use from!

Used to apply crystals my favourite - OBVIOUSLY - are SWAROVSKI but you can get a lot more for your money by buying Rhinestones the only difference is they are not quite so sparkly!

So what can you apply them to? - Anything!

Lampshades, cushions, table and bed runners. I currently sell in my retail shop wallpapers and fabrics embellished with crystals, unaffordable for many so why not apply your own? And don’t forget - unless you’re a magpie ‘less is more’ !

If you run out of household items to embellish you can always move to your wardrobe and apply to scarves, bags, belts and shoes.

The Thrifty Home - How to use Decorative Cord

For many of us who love our homes the economic downturn has left us with less disposable income to spend on furnishing and accessorising our homes so here’s a tip to give your home a facelift without breaking the bank.

If you are hankering after that feature wallpaper to replace the drab painted walls but can’t afford it think about using an inexpensive cord - you can buy a decorative cord for around 75p a metre, the only other thing you need is some clear craft glue, a few panel pins and a hammer to apply the cord just under your coving or at the top of the wall. Start in the most unobtrusive corner, apply a little glue to the cord and hold to the wall, secure lightly with a panel pin (this will be removed later so need to knock it right in!) and continue round the room until you get back to where you started! Once the glue has set remove the panel pins. This is a traditional technique which was used way back when fabric was used to decorate walls.

If you have a bit more money to spare use a 2.5 - 5cm braid which will add a more defined finish.
